Along the boardwalk
The Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk is a footpath along the harbour edge, much of it wooden and lit at night. Its nearest mapped stretch is 0.03 km from the casino building, so the path passes right by. Other stretches run as far as 1.02 km south-east, toward the ferry terminal and the Maritime Museum. Either one makes a good starting point.
Measured in straight lines, the Halifax ferry terminal on George Street is 0.49 km from the casino. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is 0.71 km away. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, on Marginal Road, is 1.86 km south-east. From Dartmouth, the ferry terminal on Alderney Drive sits 1.35 km across the water. On foot, every route is longer than these lines, and the harbour line below gives the measure for each stop.

What is open when
Live tables on the main floor run every day, 2 PM to 3 AM. You will find Blackjack, Roulette, Free Bet Blackjack and Ultimate Texas Hold'em there. Let it Ride is added on Friday and Saturday only. Minimums and which games are open depend on how busy the casino is. The high-limit area keeps later hours, 5 PM to 4 AM every day, with Blackjack, Roulette, Ruyi Baccarat and Ultimate Texas Hold'em.
Poker is dealt from 4 PM to 2 AM, Wednesday through Saturday, in two games: No Limit Texas Hold'em plus Pot-Limit Omaha. No opening hours appear for the slot floor, and holiday hours are missing too. Before setting out, look on greatcanadian.com, the venue's own site, for holiday hours. All times here are Atlantic time.
By car, ferry or on foot
If you are walking, the harbour boardwalk passes 0.03 km from the casino building. On the Halifax side, the mapped ferry terminal on George Street lies 0.49 km off as a straight line. Any walk from there covers more ground than that line.
Drivers will find paid parking on site, though the price is not published. The Player's Club lists parking among its member benefits, which are based on play and not guaranteed. No shuttle, taxi stand, EV charging or RV parking is published either. In straight lines, Bedford is 11 km away, Truro 82 km, Wolfville 79 km and Lunenburg 66 km, and roads are longer. The sheet beside this text sorts all of this by how you arrive.

What to carry
You need to be 19+ for the casino, with valid government photo ID like a passport, driver's licence or provincial ID card. Anyone who appears under 30 can be asked by staff for a second document. Another ID from that group counts, and so does a credit card, a debit card or a provincial health card.
Going to the Bruce Guthro Theatre means leaving bags and backpacks behind, along with cameras, drones and recording devices. Only small clutches up to 5 x 12 x 18 cm or clear bags up to 8 x 35 x 35 cm are allowed. The venues are 100% smoke-free, vaping included. The check beside this text sets out what to bring.
At the door: what to carry
Published rules for the casino and the theatre
- Valid government photo ID: a passport, a provincial ID card or a driver's licence.
- Staff may want a second piece if you seem under 30; a credit card, debit card or health card will do.
What is inside
The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation counted 587 slot machines and 28 tables here, as of April 2025. Electronic tables add $3 Craps and $5 Blackjack. Great Canadian Entertainment runs the casino on behalf of NSGC.
For food, 3Sixty is the restaurant and lounge, a bar with live bands serving appetizers, entrées and desserts. Its buffet runs on Fridays and Saturdays only. May Garden is the Chinese restaurant. Restaurant hours are not published.
The Bruce Guthro Theatre is the show room, with a permanent stage, a bar and seating for up to 650 theatre-style. Listings sit on the theatre's page at greatcanadian.com, with tickets sold only through Ticketmaster. The Compass Room, a circular events room under a 54-foot dome, has a panoramic view of Halifax harbour. One day the casino will move to a new building at Dartmouth Crossing; until then, the waterfront site operates as normal.

Online rules in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia's provincially regulated online casino is alc.ca, run by Atlantic Lottery for the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation. It has offered iCasino since July 2022, with Live Casino added later, and it is 19+. The province has no licence or registration for private online casinos.
Paid links appear on the guide's home page alone; each carries an Ad label and always points to one private online casino. Each time readers click through, a commission goes to the guide, and that partner could be swapped for another. Neither NSGC nor Atlantic Lottery nor any casino in the province has a tie to that partner.
Where to find help
- Calls to 1-888-429-8167, the crisis line of Provincial Mental Health and Addictions, are confidential and cost nothing, and someone picks up around the clock, every day.
- The Responsible Gambling Resource Centre sits on the Halifax gaming floor, where staff offer confidential support and self-exclusion information at 902-424-8663.
- The Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program applies at both casinos, Halifax and Sydney, restaurants and entertainment venues too; terms last 6 months, a year, three years, or have no end date.
- On alc.ca, self-exclusion works separately, with terms of 36, 24, 12 or 6 months, plus a short break lasting from 1 to 90 days; you cannot reverse either one.
