At the door: what to carry
Published rules for the casino and the theatre
- Valid government photo ID: a passport, a provincial ID card or a driver's licence.
- Staff may want a second piece if you seem under 30; a credit card, debit card or health card will do.
Photo ID and the 19+ rule
Casino Nova Scotia Halifax is 19+, as are both casinos in Nova Scotia. Getting in takes valid government photo ID. A passport qualifies, as does a provincial ID card or a driver's licence. The same age rule covers Atlantic Lottery products, including alc.ca.
Staff may ask guests who seem under 30 for one more piece of valid ID. That can be another photo ID from the list above, a provincial health card, a credit or debit card or similar identification. If you're close to that age, keep two in your wallet. The Bruce Guthro Theatre and the areas right around it are 19+ only, so plan for the same check before a show.
Bags, cameras and smoke
The Bruce Guthro Theatre does not allow bags or backpacks. The theatre also bars recording devices, drones and cameras, which keeps photos and video of a show out. Great Canadian's rules for its entertainment venues make room for two small exceptions. A clutch can measure up to 5 x 12 x 18 cm. A clear bag can go up to 8 x 35 x 35 cm.
Smoking is out as well. The entertainment venues are 100% smoke-free, and that includes cannabis, e-cigarettes and vaping. If your bag is bigger than those sizes, leave it at home before you head to the waterfront.
The Player's Club card
The Player's Club card works at both Nova Scotia casinos, Halifax and Sydney. Getting one costs nothing if you are 19+: show valid government photo ID and fill in a short application. Benefits are based on play and are not guaranteed. Your level depends on points earned in the previous six-month period.
Parking appears among the member benefits, under the same terms: based on play and not guaranteed.
Self-exclusion at the door
Casino Nova Scotia's Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program applies at both casinos, Halifax and Sydney, reaching the gaming floor, the restaurants and the theatre. You can choose an indefinite term, or one of three years, one year or 6 months. People who are self-excluded cannot win prizes. To start, talk to any casino staff member or the Responsible Gambling Resource Centre, whose staff give confidential support, at 902-424-8663. Service Nova Scotia can help too, through its Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco (AGFT) Division.
